Tile & Handbuilding.  This is an excellent class for the beginner interested in learning how to work with clay, as well as the experienced artist looking to develop their range of skills. We will be making tiles and experimenting with pattern and texture. Participants will learn how to work with plaster, capturing texture, and taking molds of their finished tiles. The molds will be used to make multiples to construct lidded boxes complete with feet and handles. The class will cover handbuilding techniques, design, and the bisq and glaze firing processes.

Handbuilding:  Face Jugs.  This special offering will be taught by our Summer Artist-in-Residence, Jono Robbins.  More information, including class dates, to come...
  • Coming This July!

Handbuilding Pottery: Platters. Handbuilding pottery is a stunning alternative, and supplement to, using the potter's wheel.  This gives the artist an alternate way to experiment with form and texture.  We will be working with porcelain slabs to create plates and platters of differing sizes and shapes while using a variety of ceramic techniques:  drape molding, pressing, stamping, scrafitto, slip trailing, and more.  Participants will be looking at contemporary and historic pottery, sketching ideas, and discussing design to end up with elegant, functional platters.
  •

Introduction to Pottery:  Centering & Throwing.  Learning how to throw on the potter's wheel is one thing on everyone's "bucket list."  This is your chance!  This class guides the beginner through basic ceramics, working with clay, the centering process, pulling cylinders, and creating functional ware on the wheel.  We will be looking at historic & contemporary pottery, sketching ideas, learning basic glaze techniques, and discussing the bisq and glaze firing processes.  This class is a prerequisite beginner/refresher course for more advanced classes.
  • Coming This May & July!

Throwing, Throwing, Throwing! Throwing, throwing, and more throwing for ALL LEVELS!  Focus will be on practicing the basic skills needed to master centering, throwing, and trimming.  We will revisit the basic pottery forms:  cup, bowl, plate; with emphasis on technique and SKILL.  We will be making additions to our pots, such as spouts and handles, and we will begin to touch on the techniques needed to throw plates and platters.
  • Coming This June!

Pottery Form & Surface:  Intermediate Throwing.  While expanding on basic throwing skills, this class dives into making intentional forms, creating larger pieces, and exploring the surfaces of pots as they relate to their shape.  We will be sketching out ideas with considerable attention being paid to the finished design:  incorporating color, texture, and pattern into our pots.
  •

Swayze & Moore:  At the wheel!  This special offering will be co-taught by long-time friends:  Resident Artist, Jono Robbins and in-house artist, Michele Drozd.  Chock full of humor & skill, this will be the class to take!  More details and info coming soon.
  • Coming This June!

Fresh New Pots:  Handbuilding & Throwing Combined.  NEW!!  While expanding on basic throwing and handbuilding skills, this class utilizes a combination of the two in order to design and make new and exciting pots!  We will explore throwing and altering with hand built additions, throwing in sections to build larger pieces, and adding decorated elements to the pots using impressed, stamped, and incised slabs.
